A message from Ama
Mekyia wo.
Hi, I’m Ama! I’m here in Accra, Ghana—and I know I look young, but I’m 17.
I grew up in a house full of love and noise, here with my four siblings. We’re always learning, always creating. My parents are from the U.S., but I’ve spent almost my whole life in Ghana, speaking Twi and doing school at home or online.
Because of that, I’ve always felt a little in between. My accent isn’t quite like the kids here, but I also didn’t grow up in the States. So it can be hard to feel like I really belong in either place.
I don’t go to school with local kids, and I’m an ocean away from the other homeschool students I’ve only ever seen on screen.
But over time, I’ve learned to see that as something special. Homeschooling taught me to be curious and creative. And living in Ghana has given me something so many people don’t get anymore—a connection to nature, to tradition, and to food that truly nourishes.
When I was four, I started my own little food service. And ever since, I’ve been learning everything I can about African superfoods—these powerful, healing ingredients that have been part of our culture for generations, but that the world barely knows about.
This year, something incredible is happening. My online school is holding its first-ever in-person graduation, in Atlanta, Georgia. I’ve never met my classmates in real life. And now, after years of learning apart, I have the chance to walk across that stage, side by side with them.
It’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment. And it means everything to me.
With your help, I can make the journey—attend graduation, and then start college to study nutrition and continue this work I love.
While I’m in the U.S., I’m also offering a free webinar to give back—to share what I’ve learned and help people discover the healing power of food. And after that, I hope to teach a full African Superfood Masterclass to support my education and continue this mission.
The funds from this campaign will go toward airfare, ground travel, food, and a safe place for me and my chaperone to stay.
If my story connects with you, I’d be deeply grateful for your support.
Thank you—truly—for helping me cross this stage and carry these traditions forward.
